# Do I Need to Declare Allergies?

Find out when allergies need to be declared for travel insurance, including over-the-counter medication, prescribed treatment, medical consultations and allergy investigations.

**It depends on how your allergies have been treated and whether you've sought medical advice.**

You do not need to declare an allergy if you've only treated it with over-the-counter medication and have not required prescription treatment or medical advice.

However, you must declare allergies if you've received prescribed medication or consulted a medical professional about them.

## When do I not need to declare an allergy?

You do not need to declare your allergy if:

- You only use over-the-counter medication.

- You have not required prescription treatment.

- You have not consulted a doctor or other medical professional about the allergy.

All of these conditions must apply.

For example, mild seasonal allergies managed using over-the-counter antihistamines, without medical advice or prescription treatment, do not need to be declared.

## When must I declare an allergy?

You must declare your allergy during medical screening if you have:

- Been prescribed medication to manage it.

- Consulted a medical professional about it.

- Required ongoing medical treatment or management.

This includes allergies for which you've been prescribed an adrenaline auto-injector, such as an EpiPen.

**An allergy may still need to be declared even if your symptoms are currently well controlled or you now use over-the-counter medication.**

## What if I'm being investigated for an allergy?

If you've been referred for investigations to identify the cause of an allergic reaction or suspected allergy, different eligibility requirements may apply.
