What should I do if I need medical treatment while abroad?
The right option depends on how serious your illness or injury is.
For minor illnesses or injuries
Your policy can cover the cost of seeing a local private doctor, with eligible costs reclaimed through the claims process.
In many cases, you may find it more convenient to use our Teledoctor service instead of attending a doctor in person.
How does the Teledoctor service work?
Our Teledoctor service is:
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Provided in English.
Available from the comfort of your hotel or accommodation.
Free to use.
In many cases, the Teledoctor will also be able to issue a prescription that can be used locally if needed.
For more information, see our Teledoctor service information.
What if I have a serious medical emergency?
For major medical emergencies, contact the Medical Emergency Assistance Company.
They provide immediate assistance if you are seriously ill, injured or die outside the United Kingdom.
The service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

What information should I have ready?
When you, or someone acting on your behalf, contacts the Medical Emergency Assistance Company, please have the following information available where possible:
Your name and address.
Your contact telephone number abroad.
Your policy number, as shown on your policy schedule.
The name, address and telephone number of your GP.
Having this information ready can help the assistance team deal with your case more quickly.
Important: All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, cover limits and any applicable excess.
