Who is eligible to purchase CoverForYou travel insurance?

Eligibility requirements, UK residency rules, medical fitness criteria, trip conditions, and minimum duration

To purchase a CoverForYou travel insurance policy, you must meet certain eligibility requirements to ensure your insurance cover is valid.

These requirements relate to your UK residency, medical circumstances and travel plans.

Who can purchase a CoverForYou policy?

You must meet all of the following requirements:

UK Residency and Travel Requirements

  • UK resident: You must be a permanent resident of the United Kingdom and registered with a UK doctor (GP).

  • Starting your trip in the UK: You must be physically in the United Kingdom when your trip begins. We cannot provide cover for trips that have already started.

  • Minimum trip duration: All Single Trip policies must cover a trip lasting at least 3 days.

Medical Eligibility

  • Fit to travel: You must be medically fit to travel and must not be travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner.

  • Medical treatment abroad: You must not be travelling with the intention of receiving medical treatment, including elective procedures such as cosmetic surgery.

  • Ongoing medical investigations: You must not be awaiting an initial medical appointment for investigations or undergoing investigations into a new or undiagnosed medical condition.

  • Terminal illness: You must not have been diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Other Eligibility Requirements

  • Known reasons for cancellation: You must not be aware of any circumstances that could reasonably cause you to cancel your trip or return home earlier than planned.

Important: You must meet the applicable eligibility requirements when purchasing your policy and comply with the relevant policy conditions when travelling.

Can I travel from an airport in the Republic of Ireland if I live in Northern Ireland?

Yes. If you're a permanent resident of Northern Ireland, you can begin your journey from an airport in the Republic of Ireland, such as Dublin Airport.

This recognises that many travellers living in Northern Ireland use airports in the Republic of Ireland for international flights.

You must still meet all other policy eligibility requirements.

What if I'm unsure whether I'm eligible?

If you're unsure whether you meet the eligibility requirements, we recommend checking before purchasing your policy.

This is particularly important if you:

  • Have an existing medical condition or are undergoing medical investigations.

  • Are unsure whether your residency circumstances meet our requirements.

  • Have already started travelling.

  • Have questions about your intended departure location.
