Q: Am I covered by my travel insurance policy if I do not have a return flight booked back to the UK?
A: Our travel insurance policies are strictly designed for round-trip holidays that both start and end in the United Kingdom. Whether you need a return flight booked in advance depends entirely on your specific policy type:
Single Trip (ST) Policies: You must have a return flight booked before you depart the UK. If you do not have a return journey booked, a Single Trip policy will not provide coverage and is not suitable for your travel needs.
Backpacker Policies: You do not need to have a return flight booked for cover to apply. However, Backpacker policies do not cover or pay for a return flight if one was not originally booked. The only exception is a serious medical emergency where a return is deemed medically necessary and officially approved by our Emergency Medical Assistance team. In those approved cases, we will arrange repatriation, but the standard cost of an economy return flight will be deducted from your final claim payouts.
Annual Multi-Trip (AMT) Policies: While a return flight is not explicitly required to buy an AMT policy, the policy assumes your trip is a temporary holiday starting and ending in the UK.
How Missing Return Flights Affect Claims
If you need to make a claim that requires us to arrange an emergency or replacement flight home, our policy will cover the admin fees to rearrange an existing booking. If you do not have a return flight booked at all, the standard cost of an economy-class ticket will be deducted from your final claim reimbursement.
Please note: All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, and any applicable excess.
