The maximum length of your trip depends on whether you have a Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip policy, your level of cover and where you purchased your insurance.
Your policy must cover the full duration of your trip.
An Annual Multi-Trip (AMT) policy provides cover for multiple eligible trips during the 12-month policy period.
Each individual trip must stay within the maximum duration allowed by your level of cover.
Cover level | Maximum duration per trip |
|---|---|
Silver | 32 consecutive days |
Gold | 45 consecutive days |
Platinum | 62 consecutive days |
For example, if you have a Gold Annual Multi-Trip policy, you can take multiple eligible trips during the policy year, but each individual trip must not exceed 45 consecutive days.
Important: If an Annual Multi-Trip journey exceeds the maximum duration allowed by your policy, there is no cover for the additional days.
If you have purchased the optional Winter Sports upgrade, you are covered for up to 28 days of winter sports activity during the insurance period.
This is a combined allowance across the policy year, rather than 28 days for each trip.
For example, you could use:
14 days on one winter sports trip; and
14 days on another winter sports trip.
Both trips must still comply with the maximum trip duration and all other policy terms.
Winter Sports cover is not available to an insured person aged 65 or over.
For a Single Trip policy, cover applies for the period of the trip shown on your policy schedule.
For policies purchased directly from CoverForYou, the available trip length is:
Minimum: 3 days.
Maximum: 94 days.
Your policy should cover your entire journey from the date you leave home until your planned return.
If you add the optional Winter Sports upgrade to a Single Trip policy, the upgrade can apply for the insured trip period, subject to the policy terms and the activities being covered.
Unlike an Annual Multi-Trip policy, the current Direct policy wording does not state a separate 28-day Winter Sports limit for Single Trip policies.
Yes.
Maximum trip lengths can differ where a policy is purchased through a price comparison website rather than directly from CoverForYou.
This can include policies purchased through sites such as:
Compare the Market.
Go.Compare.
Confused.com.
MoneySuperMarket.
If you purchased your policy through a comparison website, check your policy wording and policy schedule or validation certificate for the trip-duration limit that applies to your policy.
Your trip starts when you leave your home to begin your pre-booked journey, not necessarily when your flight, ferry or other main transport departs.
For example, if:
Your flight leaves on Friday; but
You leave home on Thursday and stay overnight near the airport;
your trip begins on Thursday.
Make sure your policy covers the complete trip from leaving home until you return home.
Policy type | Maximum trip duration |
|---|---|
Annual Multi-Trip – Silver | 32 consecutive days per trip |
Annual Multi-Trip – Gold | 45 consecutive days per trip |
Annual Multi-Trip – Platinum | 62 consecutive days per trip |
Single Trip – Direct | Up to 94 days |
Policy type | Winter Sports limit |
|---|---|
Annual Multi-Trip | Up to 28 days of winter sports activity during the policy period |
Single Trip | No separate 28-day limit stated in the current Direct policy wording; cover applies for the insured trip period, subject to the policy terms |
Do not assume that you will remain covered once you exceed the maximum trip duration.
For Annual Multi-Trip policies, the policy specifically states that there is no cover for any additional days beyond the permitted trip duration.
If your planned journey is longer, consider whether another policy type is more appropriate.
Our Backpacker travel insurance may be suitable for some longer trips.
Important: All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, cover limits and any applicable excess.
