Yes. You can purchase a CoverForYou travel insurance policy even if you already have insurance with another provider.
However, having two policies covering the same trip does not mean you'll receive double the compensation if you need to make a claim.
Before purchasing additional cover, it's worth checking what your existing insurance already provides.
If you have two active insurance policies covering the same trip, this is known as dual insurance.
There are a few important things to understand:
Cover does not stack: You cannot combine the benefit limits of two policies to create a higher overall limit for the same claim.
You cannot claim twice for the same loss: Insurance is designed to reimburse eligible financial losses, not provide duplicate compensation.
Claims may be more complicated: If both policies cover the same incident, the insurers may need to establish how the claim should be handled.
Additional insurance may be unnecessary: Purchasing another policy for cover you already have may not offer additional financial protection.
CoverForYou policies are designed to provide standalone travel insurance rather than combine benefits with another provider's policy.
You can purchase a CoverForYou policy for a trip that falls outside your existing insurance's geographical area.
This would not normally be considered overlapping cover for that trip, because your existing policy doesn't insure the destination.
You have an Annual Multi-Trip travel insurance policy through your bank, but it only provides cover for Europe.
You're planning a holiday to the United States, which falls outside your bank policy's geographical area.
In this situation:
Your existing bank policy does not cover your USA holiday.
You can purchase a CoverForYou Single Trip policy that includes the USA.
CoverForYou would provide the insurance for that trip, subject to your policy terms.
Important: Always check your existing policy's geographical limits, exclusions and benefits before deciding whether additional insurance is necessary.
If you've accidentally purchased two identical or like-for-like CoverForYou policies for the same trip, please contact us.
We can review the duplicate purchase and arrange a refund where the policies are confirmed to be accidental duplicates.
For example, this could happen if:
You accidentally complete the same purchase twice.
You purchase a second policy because you didn't realise your first payment was successful.
You receive two policy confirmations for identical cover.
Please contact us before cancelling either policy so we can review the circumstances and identify the duplicate purchase.
If you've purchased a CoverForYou policy but later realise you already have valid travel insurance with another provider, you can request to cancel one of the policies.
However, having insurance with another company does not automatically entitle you to a refund from CoverForYou.
Any cancellation or refund of your CoverForYou policy will be assessed under our normal cancellation terms and conditions.
This is different from accidentally purchasing two identical policies directly from us.
Your options depend on which policy you'd like to cancel and when it was purchased.
If you recently purchased your other travel insurance policy, check whether you're still within its 14-day cooling-off period.
You may be entitled to cancel that policy and receive a refund, depending on the provider's terms, whether cover has started and any applicable conditions.
Contact your existing insurer directly to confirm your options.
If you'd prefer to cancel your CoverForYou policy, you can request cancellation through your Customer Zone.
Sign in to your Customer Zone.
Find the policy you wish to cancel.
Select More → Change or Cancel Your Policy.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Any refund will depend on your policy's cancellation terms and circumstances.
Before purchasing additional travel insurance, we recommend checking:
Geographical cover: Does your existing policy cover every destination on your trip?
Trip duration: Does it cover your full journey?
Medical conditions: Have you declared any medical conditions that need to be covered?
Policy benefits: Does your existing insurance provide the level of cover you need?
Optional activities: Are planned activities, such as winter sports or cruises, included where required?
If your existing insurance doesn't meet your travel needs, a separate policy may be appropriate.
If you're unsure whether you already have suitable cover or believe you've accidentally purchased a duplicate CoverForYou policy, please contact our customer service team.
Please note: All cover is subject to your policy's terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and any applicable excess. Refunds are subject to the relevant cancellation terms. Where multiple policies cover the same loss, claims will be assessed in accordance with the applicable policy conditions.
