If your health changes after purchasing your CoverForYou travel insurance policy, it's important to tell us as soon as possible.
This includes being diagnosed with a new medical condition, changes to existing conditions, starting new medication or being referred for medical investigations.
A change in your health doesn't necessarily mean your insurance is no longer valid, but it may affect your cancellation cover or emergency medical cover.
The steps you need to take depend on when your health changes and whether you're still medically fit to travel.
If your health changes after purchasing your policy but before you travel, contact our medical screening team as soon as possible.
You should tell us if you:
Receive a new medical diagnosis, including a condition that wasn't known when you purchased your policy.
Experience changes to an existing medical condition, such as new or worsening symptoms.
Are prescribed new medication or experience changes to your treatment.
Are referred for tests or investigations into a new or undiagnosed medical condition.
Are awaiting treatment or further medical assessment.
Our team can review your updated medical circumstances and explain whether any changes to your cover are necessary.
Important: Medical cover following a change in health is subject to specific eligibility criteria and policy conditions. Updating your medical information does not automatically guarantee cover for the new or changed condition.
Please contact our medical screening team:
Telephone: 0203 137 8981
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm (UK time).
We recommend contacting us as soon as you're aware of a change rather than waiting until your departure date.
If your health changes after purchasing your insurance, including around the time your travel tickets or booking confirmations are issued, you should consult your doctor before travelling.
Your doctor can assess whether you're medically fit to make your planned journey.
The outcome may affect the cover available under your policy.
You should not travel against medical advice.
If you travel despite being advised not to, claims arising from the relevant medical condition will not be covered under:
Section 2 – Medical Emergencies
Section 8 – Cruise Cover
This applies if the condition causes complications or requires treatment while you're abroad.
Other terms, conditions and exclusions may also apply.
If your doctor confirms that you're medically unfit to travel, you may be able to claim under Section 1 – Cancellation.
Depending on the circumstances and your policy conditions, this could include reimbursement of eligible, non-refundable travel and accommodation costs.
You'll normally need supporting medical evidence confirming why you're unable to travel.
Important: Cancellation cover is not guaranteed simply because your health has changed. Any claim will be assessed against your policy's terms, conditions and exclusions.

You may be able to amend your policy if your health changes after purchase.
For example, you might:
Be referred for medical investigations.
Be awaiting treatment.
Need to bring your holiday forward because of a change in your medical circumstances.
Decide to shorten your planned trip.
Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to adjust your travel dates or trip duration while keeping your insurance in place.
Any amendment is subject to our eligibility requirements, the updated medical circumstances and the terms of your policy.
Please contact us before changing your travel arrangements so we can review the available options.
If your health has changed and you're unsure whether it affects your insurance, we recommend contacting us before you travel.
This is particularly important if you:
Have received a new diagnosis.
Have developed new or worsening symptoms.
Have started or changed medication.
Are waiting for medical tests, investigations or treatment.
Have been advised by a doctor that travelling may not be suitable.
Our medical screening team can explain the declaration requirements and review your circumstances.
Do not assume that a medical condition is automatically covered because your policy was purchased before it developed.
