What happens if an insured person dies while travelling?
If an insured person sadly dies during a covered trip, CoverForYou can provide assistance with eligible funeral and repatriation expenses under Section 2 – Medical Emergency and Repatriation Expenses.
The cover available depends on where the death occurs.
What is covered if an insured person dies outside their home area?
If an insured person dies outside their home area, the policy can cover:
Funeral expenses abroad; and
The cost of returning their body or ashes to their home.
These costs are subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions and applicable benefit limits.
Are funeral expenses abroad and repatriation alternatives?
No.
The policy wording provides for funeral expenses abroad plus the cost of returning the insured person's body or ashes home where the insured person dies outside their home area.
This means the policy does not require you to choose between an overseas funeral and returning ashes or remains home, although all expenses must still meet the policy conditions.
What if the insured person dies during a trip within their home area?
If an insured person dies while on a covered trip within their home area, the policy can cover the reasonable additional cost of returning their body or ashes to their home.
The policy does not provide overseas funeral expenses in these circumstances.
Are funeral costs after returning home covered?
The policy provides cover for funeral expenses abroad where the insured person dies outside their home area.
It does not provide cover for funeral, burial or cremation expenses subsequently incurred at home after the body or ashes have been returned.
