Q: Am I covered to go on a safari or do bush tracking during my trip?
A: Yes, safaris and bush tracking are fully covered under your policy as standard. There are no general policy exclusions simply because a safari takes place in a remote location, and no additional premium is required for standard safari activities.
To ensure your coverage remains entirely valid while on safari, you must meet the following specific conditions:
1. Safari and Wildlife Coverage
The following activities are covered under your policy's Emergency Medical and Repatriation sections, provided they are part of a professionally organized tour:
Guided 4x4 safaris and game drives.
Guided walking safaris and bush walking/tracking.
Traveling as a passenger in a safari 4x4 vehicle, including driving on unpaved or off-road safari tracks (this does not invalidate your medical evacuation or repatriation cover).
Medical expenses resulting from an accidental encounter with or attack by wildlife while participating in your organized safari tour.
2. Trekking Altitude Limits
If your safari involves hiking, tracking, or hill walking, your coverage depends on the maximum altitude of your route:
Up to 2,500 Metres Above Sea Level: Covered as standard under your basic policy at no extra charge.
Between 2,501 and 3,500 Metres: This requires an additional premium. You must upgrade your policy by purchasing Sports and Activities Pack 2 or 3.
⚠ Strict Altitude Rule: You must possess cover for the highest point of your route. If any portion of your hike exceeds the altitude limit allowed by your policy, the entire trekking activity becomes completely uncovered.
3. Vehicle Safety and Insurance Rules
Whether you are riding in a safari vehicle, driving, or riding pillion (as a passenger) on a motorbike during an organized tour, you must adhere to these transport rules:
The Helmet and Seatbelt Rule: You must wear a helmet at all times if you are driving or riding pillion on a motorbike, moped, scooter, or assisted bicycle. You must wear a seatbelt in any motorized vehicle where one is available for use.
Valid Motor Insurance Mandatory: It is your strict responsibility to ensure that any vehicle you drive, or travel in as a passenger, holds valid motor liability insurance. Traveling in an uninsured vehicle will completely invalidate any insurance claim. Furthermore, if you are a passenger, the driver must hold the correct, valid driving license.
⚠ Personal Liability Exclusion: There is completely zero Personal Liability cover (damage to third-party property or injuries caused to other people) while you are operating a motorized vehicle.
Strict Exclusions: Driving quad bikes, off-road motor rallies, racing, and organized competitions remain strictly excluded from all sections of the policy.
Please note: All cover is subject to you participating on a recreational, non-professional basis and following all local laws. For a claim to be valid, you must ensure all pre-existing medical conditions have been accurately declared and you can provide official evidence of your loss. Full details of all conditions and exclusions can be found within the policy wording.
