Yes. Sports equipment can be covered during your trip, but cover depends on whether the sport or activity itself is covered under your policy.
Yes.
We cannot pay a claim for sporting equipment if your policy does not cover the sport or activity you are taking part in.
For example:
Equipment used for activities covered as standard, such as cycling, may be covered under the standard baggage section.
Golf equipment requires the Golf Cover add-on.
Skiing and snowboarding equipment requires the Winter Sports upgrade.
If your sports equipment is lost, stolen or damaged by a travel supplier, claims are settled on a new for old basis.
This means:
No deduction is made for the age of the item.
No deduction is made for wear and tear or depreciation.
The settlement is based on the current replacement cost of the item, subject to the applicable policy limits.
If an airline loses or damages your equipment while it is in their care, you must:
Report the loss or damage to the airline before leaving the airport.
Obtain a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
Make sure the incident is reported within any time limits set out in the airline's terms and conditions.
Bicycles, e-bikes and e-scooters can be covered while they are checked in with a commercial travel carrier.
Any loss, theft or damage must occur, and be reported in writing, while the item is in the official care of:
A commercial carrier.
A transport provider.
An authority.
A hotel.
An accommodation provider.
Bicycles, e-bikes and e-scooters remain subject to the single article limit under your baggage cover.
If you are travelling with a high-value bicycle or similar item, the single article limit may not be enough to cover the full replacement cost.
In these circumstances, you may wish to consider separate specialist bicycle insurance.
If you have the appropriate Golf Cover or Winter Sports upgrade shown on your policy schedule, you may also have cover for hiring replacement equipment.
This can reimburse the necessary cost of renting replacement:
Ski equipment.
Golf clubs.
Cover applies where your own equipment is:
Stolen.
Damaged.
Temporarily delayed by a travel supplier for more than 12 hours on your outward journey.
Important: All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, cover limits and any applicable excess. Please refer to your policy wording for full details.
