Q: What does the Winter Sports Add-on cover, and what are the rules for skiing and snowboarding?
A: If you are planning a skiing, snowboarding, or winter activity holiday, you must purchase our optional Winter Sports add-on (which will be shown on your policy schedule) to be protected while participating.
Please find the core boundaries, covered activities, exclusions, and claim requirements below:
1. Policy Allowances and Age Restrictions:
Annual Multi-Trip (AMT) Policies: Covers you for a maximum total of 28 days of winter sports activities across the entire policy year.
Single Trip (ST) Policies: Covers you for the full duration of your specified trip.
Backpacker Policies: Covers you for a maximum of 17 days within your total period of cover.
⚠ Age Exclusion: Please note that our Winter Sports section does not provide any coverage for insured individuals aged 65 or over.
What is covered under the winter sports section:
A: If you have purchased the optional Winter Sports upgrade, this specific section protects you against a variety of equipment losses and trip disruptions through the following covers:
Ski Equipment Protection:
Covers the accidental loss, theft, or damage to your own personally owned ski equipment (including skis, bindings, poles, and snowboards) up to the specified limit shown in your Table of Benefits.
Ski Equipment Rental Cover: Pays the necessary costs to hire replacement ski equipment if your own gear is lost, stolen, or damaged during your trip. This also includes hiring replacement gear if your equipment is temporarily delayed or misplaced in transit by your airline/carrier for more than 24 hours.
Reimbursement for Your Ski Pack: Reimburses you for the pre-paid, unused portion of your ski pack, ski school fees, lift passes, and ski passes if an unexpected accident, bodily injury, illness, or disease physically prevents you from participating in your winter sports activities.
Resort Slope Closures: Provides cover if the skiing facilities at your chosen resort are completely closed down due to a lack of snow, too much snow, or an avalanche. This applies strictly to trips outside the UK during the official, scheduled ski season for your specific resort.
Avalanche or Landslide Delay Benefit: Provides a fixed benefit to assist with incidental expenses if an avalanche or landslide causes your transport itinerary to be delayed by 24 hours or more.
Please note: All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, and any applicable excess. Full details can be found in the policy wording.
2. Walking on Snow vs. High-Risk Trekking
Casual Snow Walking (Standard Cover): Walking on snow casually in or around a ski resort or town (for example, walking to a restaurant, sightseeing, or watching your family ski) is fully covered under your standard policy at no extra cost.
Winter Walking & Glacier Trekking (Add-on Required): Active cross-country winter trekking, glacier walking, or hiking on snow for several kilometres or at high altitudes or engaging in any other winter sports activity covered by us strictly requires the Winter Sports add-on.
3. Covered Winter Activities and Strict Exclusions
Terrain and Snow Parks: Skiing or snowboarding within a designated snow park or terrain park is covered, provided you are participating on a recreational basis. However, the policy strictly excludes any tricks or stunts.
E-Biking on Snow: Operating an e-bike or ski-bike on snow is covered under this add-on. However, because an e-bike is a motorized vehicle, Personal Liability cover is completely excluded while riding it.
Professional Sports and Racing: We cannot cover any winter sports done on a professional level, as part of an organized entertainment performance, or during competitive racing events.
Unattended Equipment: There is completely no coverage if your ski equipment is lost, stolen, or damaged while left unattended in a public place.
Unattended Vehicles: You cannot claim for ski equipment stolen from an unattended vehicle unless the gear was locked completely out of sight inside a secure baggage area (such as a locked boot) or locked securely onto a dedicated ski roof rack. There must be physical evidence of forced entry.
Resort Slope Closures: Covers you if skiing facilities at your resort shut down due to a lack of snow, too much snow, or an avalanche during your resort's official ski season. No coverage applies if the closure was publicly announced before you bought the policy or booked the trip, or if the resort operator provides you with alternative transport to another slope.

Q: Certain ski resorts require written proof that my policy includes Personal Liability cover for skiing. How can I get this?
A: We understand that several international ski resorts and travel companies now legally require written confirmation that your travel insurance includes active personal liability protection for winter sports.
If you have purchased our Winter Sports add-on, this document is automatically generated for you. You can easily obtain your written confirmation by following these steps:
Log into your secure online Customer Zone.
Navigate to your active policy documents.
Locate and download the specific document entitled 'Winter Sports Cover Confirmation'.
This official document serves as your written certificate confirming your winter sports protection, and explicitly details which recreational winter activities include or exclude personal liability cover under your policy.
