Maximum trip durations can differ if you purchased your policy through a price comparison website, such as:
Compare the Market.
Go.Compare.
Confused.com.
MoneySuperMarket.
Check your policy wording, policy schedule or validation certificate for the trip duration that applies to your policy.
If you purchase the optional Winter Sports upgrade, Backpacker policies provide up to 17 days of winter sports activity during the insurance period.
This is the total allowance for your Backpacker trip.
For example, you could use:
7 days of winter sports in one destination; and
10 days in another destination.
This would use the full 17-day allowance.
The Winter Sports option must be shown on your policy schedule, and the activities you take part in must meet the conditions in the sports and activities section of your policy.
Yes.
A Backpacker policy allows temporary return visits home before your intended return date without automatically ending the overall policy, subject to the limits for your level of cover.
These temporary visits do not include a return home being made as part of a claim for emergency medical treatment, repatriation or cutting short your trip.
You can make:
1 return visit home.
For a maximum of 14 days.
You can make:
Up to 2 return visits home.
For a combined maximum of 31 days.
For example, with Platinum cover you could return for 14 days on one occasion and 17 days on another, using the full 31-day allowance.
No.
Your Backpacker cover is suspended during a permitted trip home.
The policy states that cover is suspended from the time you arrive at your departure point for your journey home.
During the suspended period, no cover is provided by the Backpacker policy.
This means you cannot claim under the policy for events occurring during that period, such as:
Medical expenses.
Lost, stolen or damaged belongings.
Travel delays.
Other travel-related losses.
Cover starts again when you exit the airport at your overseas destination after returning to continue your Backpacker trip.
This means the journey from the UK back to your overseas destination takes place while your Backpacker cover is suspended.
Your return visit must also remain within the number and duration of trips home permitted by your level of cover.
If you expect to exceed the permitted number or duration of return visits, contact CoverForYou before doing so.
Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to offer an extended stay option, subject to eligibility and agreement.
Do not assume that a longer stay is automatically permitted.
