Am I covered to ride a motorbike or scooter in Vietnam?
Yes, provided you meet the policy conditions and comply with the local driving requirements.
If you are driving a motorbike, moped, scooter or assisted bicycle, you must:
Hold a full UK driving licence, or another internationally recognised licence, that entitles you to drive that type of vehicle.
Hold the correct International Driving Permit (IDP) where required.
Ensure the vehicle is appropriately insured.
Wear a helmet.
Remain on-road.
Not take part in racing, motor rallies, off-road riding or competitions.
For Vietnam, UK licence holders currently need to carry both their UK driving licence and a 1968 International Driving Permit.
You can find current information on obtaining an IDP on the GOV.UK driving abroad page.
What if I am a passenger?
You can also be covered as a passenger on a motorbike, moped or scooter, provided:
The driver is correctly licensed to drive the vehicle.
The vehicle is appropriately insured.
You wear a helmet.
What is not covered?
Your travel insurance does not provide cover for:
Damage to the motorbike, scooter or other hired vehicle itself.
Your legal liability for damage to third-party property.
Your legal liability for injury to another person while using a motorised vehicle.
Personal Liability cover does not apply while driving or using a motorised vehicle.
Important: All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, cover limits and any applicable excess.
