Will My Annual Policy Still Cover a Family Member's Illness After Renewal?

Find out whether cancellation and curtailment cover continues after renewing your Annual Multi-Trip policy when a close family member was diagnosed after you booked your holiday.

Yes. If you booked your holiday before becoming aware of a close family member's illness, you can continue to have cancellation and curtailment cover after renewing your CoverForYou Annual Multi-Trip policy, provided there is no break in your insurance cover.

This applies where the family member was diagnosed after you booked the trip, even if their condition later deteriorates.

Any claim remains subject to the policy terms and conditions.

What if my family member was diagnosed after I booked my holiday?

If you booked your holiday before you knew about your close family member's illness, cancellation or curtailment arising from that illness may remain covered after renewal.

For example:

  1. You purchase an Annual Multi-Trip policy in January.

  2. You book a holiday for the following December.

  3. Your close family member receives an unexpected medical diagnosis in June.

  4. Your Annual Multi-Trip policy renews in November, with no break in cover.

  5. Your family member's health deteriorates in December, meaning you need to cancel your holiday.

In this situation, you may still be eligible for cancellation cover because the holiday was booked before you became aware of the illness and your insurance continued without interruption.

Why is having no break in cover important?

Your renewed policy must begin immediately after your previous policy ends.

Continuous insurance cover helps preserve the protection available for eligible trips already booked under your previous policy.

If your policy expires and is not renewed, you should not assume that purchasing a new policy later will provide the same cancellation or curtailment protection for circumstances that became known during the gap.

If you've had a break in cover, contact CoverForYou before relying on your insurance.

What if I book another holiday after my family member's diagnosis?

Different rules apply if you book a new holiday after becoming aware of your family member's illness.

Under your policy, cancellation and curtailment claims arising from circumstances already known when you booked the trip are excluded where those circumstances could reasonably have been expected to result in a claim.

For example, if you book a holiday knowing that your close relative is seriously ill and later need to cancel because their condition deteriorates, the claim may be excluded.

Am I Covered If I Book a Trip After a Close Family Member Is Diagnosed With an Illness?

Does renewing my policy guarantee cancellation cover?

No. Continuous cover preserves the eligibility of existing bookings under our current guidance, but each claim must still meet the policy's conditions.

Cancellation or curtailment may be covered where:

  • The trip was booked before you became aware of the relevant illness.

  • Your insurance continued without a break.

  • The reason for cancellation or curtailment is covered by your policy.

  • You can provide the supporting evidence required for your claim.

Other exclusions and benefit limits still apply.

What should I check when renewing my Annual Multi-Trip policy?

Before your renewal date:

  1. Check that your renewal will take effect without a break in cover.

  2. Review your renewal invitation and policy details.

  3. Make sure your policy still meets your travel needs.

  4. Check that your renewal payment is successful.

  5. Retain your original holiday booking confirmation and relevant insurance documents.

If you're unsure whether your renewal will preserve cover for an existing booking, contact CoverForYou before your current policy expires.
