Am I Covered If I Perform, Sing or Dance During My Trip?

Find out when recreational music and dancing are covered and when public or professional performances fall outside your travel insurance.

Am I covered if I perform, sing or dance during my trip?

Cover depends on whether the activity is recreational or whether you are taking part in a professional or public performance.

The policy covers sports and activities when you are taking part on a recreational and non-professional basis.

Professional participation is not covered.

Is recreational dancing covered?

Yes.

Dancing, including instruction, is included as standard under the sports and activities section, provided you are taking part recreationally and meet the normal policy conditions.

This can include:

  • Taking part in a dance class.

  • Recreational dancing while on holiday.

  • Social dancing at an event or on a cruise.

You must still follow any applicable local laws and use recommended safety equipment where relevant.

What about singing or playing a musical instrument?

The policy does not specifically list singing or playing a musical instrument as covered sports or activities.

Casual participation for your own enjoyment is different from travelling to perform professionally or provide entertainment.

If your trip involves an organised performance, paid entertainment or another activity that is not listed as covered, contact CoverForYou before taking part.

Are professional performances covered?

No.

The policy does not cover participation in sports or activities on a professional basis.

If you are travelling specifically to work as a professional performer or entertainer, you should not assume that your standard travel insurance covers that activity.

What about unpaid public performances?

The current policy wording does not specifically define whether every unpaid public performance is treated as a professional activity.

If you are planning to:

  • Sing for an audience.

  • Perform live music.

  • Take part in a stage show.

  • Provide organised entertainment.

you should contact CoverForYou before travelling or taking part so that the activity can be checked against your cover.

Does Personal Liability apply while dancing?

Standard recreational dancing is not marked as an activity that automatically removes Personal Liability cover.

However, the normal terms and exclusions of Section 5B – Personal Liability still apply.
