Can I Get Cover If I’m Having Routine Tests, Scans or Medical Reviews?

Find out the difference between routine medical follow-ups and new investigations, and how each can affect your travel insurance cover.

Can I get cover if I have routine medical reviews, tests or scans?

Yes, in many cases.

If you have an existing diagnosed medical condition and attend routine follow-up appointments, tests or scans, we can normally provide cover provided that:

  • You declare the medical condition.

  • You complete any required medical screening.

  • You pay any additional premium that applies.

Routine monitoring of an existing diagnosed condition does not automatically prevent cover.

What if I have been referred for a new or non-routine investigation?

If you have been referred for a non-routine appointment, test or scan because of a new symptom, unexpected result or change in your health, we will be unable to provide cover until that investigation has been completed.

Examples can include:

  • A new growth or lump.

  • Unexpected blood test results.

  • A new symptom that requires further investigation.

  • A scan or test requested because of a recent change in your health.

Once the investigation has been completed and you have a confirmed outcome or diagnosis, you can then check whether cover can be provided.

What if I am not sure whether my appointment is routine?

If you are unsure whether your test, scan or appointment is routine or part of a new investigation, please contact us before travelling.
