Can I Get Travel Insurance If I'm Having Routine Tests or Medical Reviews?

Find out whether routine medical check-ups, scans or follow-up appointments affect your travel insurance, and how new medical investigations may affect eligibility.

Yes, in many cases. If you have an existing, diagnosed medical condition and attend routine check-ups, tests or scans to monitor it, CoverForYou can normally consider offering travel insurance.

However, there is an important difference between routine monitoring of an existing condition and new investigations into an undiagnosed medical problem.

Can I get cover if I have routine medical appointments?

If your appointments are part of the normal monitoring of an existing, diagnosed condition, we can normally consider providing cover, provided that:

  • You declare the relevant medical condition.

  • You complete any required medical screening.

  • We agree to cover the condition and you pay any applicable additional premium.

Examples of routine monitoring may include:

  • Regular follow-up appointments for an established condition.

  • Scheduled blood tests to monitor an existing diagnosis.

  • Routine scans or check-ups arranged as part of your ongoing care.

Routine monitoring does not automatically prevent you from obtaining travel insurance. However, cover remains subject to medical screening and acceptance.

What if I've been referred for a new investigation?

If you've been referred for a non-routine test, scan or appointment because of a new symptom, unexpected result or change in your health, we will be unable to offer cover while that investigation remains outstanding.

Examples include:

  • A new or unexplained lump or growth.

  • Unexpected or abnormal blood test results requiring investigation.

  • New symptoms that haven't been diagnosed.

  • A scan requested because your existing condition has changed.

  • A specialist referral to investigate a new medical concern.

Once your investigations are complete and you have received an outcome or diagnosis, you can contact us to check whether cover is available.

Important: Having an existing diagnosis does not automatically make every subsequent test routine. An investigation prompted by new symptoms or an unexpected change may be treated differently.

What if I'm waiting for the results of a routine test?

If your test is part of routine monitoring of an established condition, this does not necessarily prevent cover.

However, if the test has identified something unexpected that requires further investigation, different eligibility restrictions may apply.

If you're uncertain whether your appointment or pending results are considered routine, contact us before purchasing your policy.

What if I already have a CoverForYou policy?

If you're referred for new investigations or experience a change in your health after purchasing your policy, you should contact us to check whether your cover is affected.

A change in health does not automatically invalidate your existing insurance, but it may affect the cover available for the condition concerned.
