Do I Need to Declare Weight Loss Medication Such as Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro?

Find out how to declare prescription weight-loss medication, including Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro, and which medical screening category to select.

Yes. If you take prescription weight-loss medication such as Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro, you must declare it during CoverForYou's medical screening process.

The condition or treatment you need to declare depends on why the medication was prescribed, rather than simply which medication you're taking.

What should I select during medical screening?

Use the screening category that accurately describes the reason for your prescription.

Reason for Taking Medication

What to Declare

You have been diagnosed with obesity and prescribed medication to manage it

Obesity

You have been diagnosed with diabetes and prescribed medication to manage it

Diabetes

You have been prescribed weight-loss injections specifically to help you lose weight, without an obesity or diabetes diagnosis

Weight loss injections

These categories reflect our current medical screening guidance.

If you have other diagnosed medical conditions that require declaration, you must declare those separately where required.

What if I take Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro for weight loss?

You must still complete the relevant medical declaration, even if you're taking the medication solely to help you lose weight.

If you have not been diagnosed with obesity or diabetes and have been prescribed weight-loss injections for weight management, select Weight loss injections.

If you're unsure which category applies, contact our Medical Screening Team before proceeding.

What if I obtained the medication without a valid prescription?

Prescription-only medication must be obtained through legitimate medical channels and used under a valid prescription.

If you're using prescription weight-loss medication without a valid prescription, CoverForYou's policies are not suitable for you under our current eligibility rules.

Using prescription medication without a valid prescription may also affect the validity of your policy or any subsequent claim.

If this applies to you, contact us to discuss your circumstances rather than assuming you're insured.

Will my weight-loss medication be covered?

If you need to declare a medical condition, you'll be asked to complete medical screening.

If we can offer cover, your quotation will include any additional premium required.

Once you've purchased the policy, your declared and accepted medical conditions will be covered in accordance with your policy terms and any applicable exclusions.

You do not need to obtain separate written approval if you've completed medical screening and purchased the policy on the terms quoted.

What if I start taking weight-loss medication after buying my policy?

If you begin taking Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or another prescribed weight-loss medication after purchasing your policy, contact us to check whether your medical information needs updating.

This is particularly important if the medication has been prescribed following a new diagnosis or change in your health.
