How Do I Declare Wheezing or Inhaler Use for a Young Child?

Learn how to declare wheezing or prescribed inhaler use in young children who have not received a formal asthma diagnosis.

If your child has been prescribed an inhaler but has not been formally diagnosed with asthma, you can still declare their respiratory condition during CoverForYou's medical screening process.

Asthma can be difficult to diagnose in young children, and being prescribed an inhaler does not necessarily mean your child has asthma.

What condition should I select?

If your child uses a prescribed inhaler but has not received an asthma diagnosis, the following conditions are available in our medical screening system:

  • Children Viral Wheeze

  • Paediatric Bronchoconstriction

These options allow you to declare the relevant respiratory condition without incorrectly stating that your child has been diagnosed with asthma.

Select the condition that accurately reflects the medical information provided by your child's healthcare professional.

If you're unsure which option applies, contact our Medical Screening Team rather than guessing.

What if my child has been diagnosed with asthma?

If your child has received a formal asthma diagnosis, you should declare Asthma during medical screening.

Answer all relevant questions accurately, including those concerning prescribed medication and treatment.

What if my child is awaiting further investigations?

If your child is awaiting tests or specialist investigations to determine the cause of their symptoms, contact our Medical Screening Team before purchasing.

Different eligibility requirements may apply to medical conditions that are still being investigated.

Can I Get Travel Insurance If I'm Awaiting a Diagnosis?

Will my child's respiratory condition be covered?

Declaring a condition does not automatically guarantee cover.

Any cover offered will depend on the answers provided during medical screening.

If we can offer cover, your quotation will reflect the available terms and any additional premium. Once you've purchased the policy, your child's declared and accepted medical conditions will be covered in accordance with those terms.

No separate written approval is required after purchasing the policy on the terms quoted.

What if my child's condition changes after purchase?

If your child receives a new diagnosis, their prescribed treatment changes or their respiratory condition changes, contact us to check whether their cover may be affected.
