What Cruise Cover Is Included and What Does the Cruise Add-on Provide?

Find out what cruise cover is included as standard, what additional protection the Cruise add-on provides, what evidence may be needed for a claim and how to obtain proof of cover.

Am I covered to go on a cruise?

Yes. You are automatically covered while on a cruise under the relevant sections of your travel insurance policy.

The optional Cruise Cover add-on provides additional cruise-specific protection.

Your policy schedule will show whether you have purchased this upgrade.

What additional benefits does Cruise Cover provide?

Cruise Cover can include:

  • Costs to re-join your cruise after an eligible missed departure.

  • Costs to re-join the ship if you miss it during a trip ashore.

  • A benefit for an eligible missed port.

  • Cabin confinement due to a covered accident or illness.

  • Increased baggage and valuables limits.

  • Unused pre-booked excursions where you are confined to your cabin because of a covered accident or illness.

When can re-joining costs be covered?

Cover can apply if you miss the initial cruise departure or arrive too late to re-join the ship following a trip ashore because of:

  • Failure of other public transport.

  • An accident involving your vehicle.

  • Vehicle breakdown.

  • An accident, breakdown or unexpected traffic incident causing an unexpected delay.

  • Adverse weather.

  • A strike.

The policy can cover reasonable additional:

  • Room-only accommodation.

  • Economy-class public transport.

to enable you to re-join your cruise.

There is no cover where the missed departure is caused by:

  • Terrorism.

  • War.

  • A pandemic.

  • Regional quarantine.

How early do I need to arrive at the cruise port?

You must allow at least 3 hours between your planned arrival at the port and the scheduled sailing departure time.

When is a missed port covered?

A benefit can apply if, after your cruise has started, a scheduled port is cancelled because of:

  • Adverse weather.

  • Timetable restrictions.

and no alternative port is offered.

A missed-port claim is not covered in certain circumstances, including where:

  • You fail to attend the port visit.

  • The ship cannot put passengers ashore because of mechanical or operational failure of its tender or another boat used for disembarkation.

  • The cruise operator offers monetary compensation, including onboard credit.
