Do I Need to Declare Gender Reassignment Surgery or Treatment?

Find out whether gender reassignment surgery or treatment needs to be declared and how planned treatment, surgery dates and other medical conditions can affect travel insurance.

No. You do not need to declare gender reassignment surgery or treatment when purchasing CoverForYou travel insurance.

However, you must still declare any other medical conditions that require medical screening.

Do I need to declare previous or ongoing gender reassignment treatment?

No. You do not need to declare gender reassignment surgery or treatment itself when purchasing your policy.

Having undergone or undergoing gender reassignment treatment does not automatically prevent you from obtaining CoverForYou travel insurance.

What if my treatment or surgery dates affect my holiday?

You will not be covered for cancellation or curtailment if your planned gender reassignment treatment or surgery dates conflict with your travel arrangements.

For example, you would not be covered if:

  • You need to cancel your holiday to attend planned surgery or treatment.

  • You need to return home early because of a scheduled treatment appointment.

  • Your planned treatment dates conflict with your booked travel dates.

Before booking your holiday, consider any planned treatment or recovery periods that might affect your ability to travel.

What if I have another medical condition?

If you have a separate medical condition that requires declaration, you must disclose it during medical screening.

If we can offer cover, your quotation will include any additional premium and applicable terms.

Once you've purchased the policy, your declared and accepted medical conditions will be covered in accordance with those terms.

You do not need separate written approval after completing medical screening and purchasing the policy on the terms quoted.

Am I covered if I travel abroad specifically for surgery or treatment?

CoverForYou travel insurance is not designed to cover planned medical treatment abroad.

The policy excludes claims arising directly or indirectly from surgery, medical treatment or investigations that you travel specifically to receive, including related complications.

This applies to planned medical procedures generally, including gender reassignment surgery.

What if my health changes after purchasing my policy?

If you develop a new medical condition, experience complications or have another relevant change in your health after purchasing your policy, contact us to check whether your cover may be affected.

You should also check with your medical practitioner that you're fit to travel.
