Not necessarily. You do not need to declare medication taken solely as a preventative measure, provided it is not linked to a current or previous medical condition that needs to be declared.
However, if medication has been prescribed to treat, manage or control a pre-existing medical condition, you must declare the relevant condition when required during medical screening.
You do not need to declare medication solely because it has been prescribed to reduce the risk of developing a condition in the future.
This applies where:
The medication is being taken purely as a preventative measure.
You have not previously been diagnosed with or treated for the condition it is intended to prevent.
There is no existing medical condition associated with the medication that requires declaration.
You must still declare any other relevant medical conditions.
If you take medication to manage an existing or previously diagnosed medical condition, you must declare that condition where required.
For example:
High blood pressure: Medication prescribed to control diagnosed high blood pressure.
High cholesterol: Medication prescribed to manage previously diagnosed high cholesterol.
Other existing conditions: Medication prescribed to treat, manage or control a medical condition.
This applies even if the medication also helps prevent future complications.
The important distinction is why the medication has been prescribed, rather than the medication's name or its preventative benefits.
Some medications can be prescribed for different reasons.
If you're unsure whether yours is being used purely for prevention or to manage an existing condition, check the reason for the prescription with your prescribing clinician.
You can then contact our Medical Screening Team to establish whether a medical declaration is required.
