CoverForYou provides up to £15 million per person, per trip for eligible medical emergency and other expenses under Section 2 – Medical Emergency and Repatriation Expenses.
This applies across the Silver, Gold and Platinum levels of the current Direct policy.
Cover can include eligible costs such as:
Emergency medical, surgical and hospital treatment outside your home area.
Ambulance and medical fees.
Emergency dental treatment for the immediate relief of pain, subject to its separate benefit limit.
Medically necessary additional transport and accommodation.
Medically necessary repatriation, where approved by the Emergency Medical Assistance Service.
The £15 million amount is the maximum benefit available for medical emergency and other expenses. All claims remain subject to the policy terms, conditions and exclusions.
No.
You do not need to hold a GHIC or EHIC for CoverForYou's emergency medical section to apply.
However, if you are travelling somewhere where a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) can be used, we recommend taking it with you.
A GHIC or eligible EHIC can give you access to medically necessary state-provided healthcare in participating countries.
Depending on the country and treatment required, healthcare may be provided:
Free of charge.
At a reduced cost.
On the same basis as it is provided to residents of that country.
A GHIC or EHIC does not replace travel insurance.
For example, it does not provide the same protection as travel insurance for costs such as medically necessary repatriation to your home.
You can apply for a GHIC through the NHS.
Yes.
The UK has reciprocal healthcare arrangements with certain countries outside the EU.
If you are travelling to a country with a reciprocal healthcare agreement, you may be entitled to access some state-provided healthcare.
The treatment available and any amount you need to pay can vary by country, so check the applicable arrangements before travelling.
You can find out more about healthcare abroad.
Reciprocal healthcare arrangements do not replace travel insurance and may not cover all treatment or the cost of returning you home.
Under the current CoverForYou Direct policy, the Table of Benefits shows the policy excess as Nil for Silver, Gold and Platinum cover.
You should check your own policy schedule and wording, particularly if you purchased your policy through another sales channel, as the terms applicable to your policy may differ.
If you become ill or injured during your trip:
Seek urgent medical help where necessary.
Use your GHIC, EHIC or reciprocal healthcare entitlement where applicable.
Contact the Emergency Medical Assistance Service as soon as possible if you need medical assistance, hospital treatment or repatriation.
Keep receipts, medical reports and other supporting documents that may be required for your claim.
