What is trip curtailment?
Curtailment means cutting short your trip after you have already left home.
Under your policy, your trip is considered cut short if:
You return home early: You cut your trip short and return directly to your home earlier than planned.
You are hospitalised: You are admitted to hospital outside your home area as an in-patient for more than 24 hours.
You are in personal quarantine: You are confined to your accommodation abroad due to a personal quarantine for more than 24 hours.
The reason for cutting short your trip must be covered by your policy for a claim to be considered.
How are curtailment claims calculated?
Curtailment claims are calculated according to the number of nights affected.
This means the claim is based on:
The number of nights of your trip you miss because you return home early.
The number of nights you are hospitalised.
The number of nights you are quarantined or confined to your accommodation.
Any payment is subject to the applicable policy limits, terms and exclusions.
Can another insured person also claim?
If you are hospitalised, quarantined or confined to your accommodation for more than 24 hours, the claim normally applies to the ill, injured, quarantined or confined insured person.
However, if CoverForYou or the Emergency Medical Assistance Service agrees that another insured person should remain with you, the policy can also cover that person's proportion of unused travel and accommodation costs.
This can include insured children travelling with them.
Do I need approval before returning home early?
Yes.
If you need to return home early and intend to make a curtailment claim, you must obtain prior approval from the Emergency Medical Assistance Service to confirm that returning home is necessary.
