You may need to declare Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) when purchasing CoverForYou travel insurance, depending on when you last received treatment or prescribed medication and which policy you're purchasing.
The medical screening requirements differ between Direct policies and most other policies.
Under our current medical screening guidance, you must declare IBS if you've received prescribed medication or medical treatment within the applicable look-back period.
Policy Type | Declaration Requirement |
|---|---|
CoverForYou Direct | Declare IBS if you've received prescribed medication or treatment within the last 1 year. |
Most other policies | Declare IBS if you've received prescribed medication or treatment within the last 2 years. |
Always answer the medical screening questions applicable to your policy accurately.
If you were diagnosed with IBS outside the applicable look-back period and have not required prescribed medication or medical treatment during that period, you may not need to declare it under these specific screening rules.
However, you should still answer all relevant questions accurately.
If you're uncertain whether your medical history needs declaring, contact us before purchasing.
If you're currently taking prescribed medication for IBS, you must declare the condition.
This applies even if:
Your IBS was diagnosed several years ago.
Your symptoms are currently well controlled.
You haven't recently experienced a flare-up.
If we can offer cover following medical screening, your quotation will include any additional premium and applicable terms.
Once you've purchased the policy, your declared and accepted medical conditions will be covered in accordance with those terms.
If you're undergoing investigations to determine whether you have IBS, or doctors are investigating the cause of your symptoms, different eligibility restrictions may apply.
Contact us before purchasing.
