What Happens If My Health Changes or I’m Added to a Waiting List After Buying My Policy?

Find out how a new waiting list, treatment or investigation can affect your existing cover and future trips, including Annual Multi-Trip policies.

What happens if I am added to a waiting list after buying my policy?

If you are added to a waiting list for treatment or investigation after your policy has started, your existing cover can remain valid provided that:

  • The change happened after your policy began.

  • Your doctor has confirmed that you are fit to travel.

What if I have an Annual Multi-Trip policy?

If you have an Annual Multi-Trip policy and your health changes between the date you bought the policy and the date the policy starts, your cover will still be honoured for the full policy year until the renewal date.

What if I book a new trip after my health has changed?

You should be aware that there is no cover for a new trip where, at the time you book it, you are already aware of circumstances that could reasonably lead to a claim.

For example:

  • You are added to a waiting list for treatment.

  • You then book a new trip under your Annual Multi-Trip policy.

  • Your treatment date later clashes with your travel dates.

In this situation, you would not be covered if you needed to cancel or cut short that trip because of the treatment date.

Important: All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions and exclusions. If your health changes, make sure you understand how this may affect any trips you book after the change.
