What happens if I receive a terminal diagnosis after buying my policy?
If you receive a terminal diagnosis after purchasing your policy, your cover will depend on whether your trip was booked before or after the diagnosis.
Trips booked before the diagnosis
If your trip was booked before you received the terminal diagnosis, you may still be covered for cancellation or curtailment if you are no longer able to travel.
You may also still travel as planned, provided that you:
Are not travelling against medical advice.
Are following all recommended treatment.
Are not taking part in activities that go against your doctor's recommendations.
Trips booked after the diagnosis
If you book a new trip after receiving the terminal diagnosis, there will be no cover for cancellation or curtailment arising from the diagnosis if you are later unable to travel.
This is because the policy does not cover circumstances that were known to you when the trip was booked and which could reasonably have been expected to result in cancellation or curtailment.
You may still travel as planned, provided that you:
Are not travelling against medical advice.
Are following all recommended treatment.
Are not taking part in activities that go against your doctor's recommendations.
Should I get a fit-to-fly letter?
We recommend obtaining a fit-to-fly letter from your treating medical practitioner before travelling.
This can help demonstrate that you were not travelling against medical advice at the time of your trip.
Important: All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, cover limits and any applicable excess.
