What happens if I cannot return to the UK as planned for medical reasons?
If you cannot return to the United Kingdom as originally planned, and the Medical Emergency Assistance Company agrees that extending your stay is medically necessary, the policy can cover certain additional costs.
What additional costs can be covered?
Subject to approval, we can pay for:
Extra accommodation on a room-only basis while you are unable to travel home.
Additional travel costs to return to the UK, normally in economy class.
A higher class of travel where this is confirmed as medically necessary and authorised.
Extra room-only accommodation for someone to remain with you and travel home with you, where this is medically necessary.
Reasonable costs for one relative or friend to travel from the UK to stay with you, including room-only accommodation and their return travel, where this is medically necessary.
Additional travel costs if you are unable to use your original return ticket.
Taxi or hire car costs for hospital-related travel.
Do these costs need to be approved?
Yes.
The extended stay and related arrangements must be agreed as medically necessary by the Medical Emergency Assistance Company.
You should contact the assistance team as soon as possible so they can assess your situation and authorise any necessary arrangements.
Important: All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, cover limits and any applicable excess. Please refer to your policy wording for full details.
