What is the insurance period?
The insurance period is the period during which your policy provides cover. How this works depends on the type of policy you have.
Annual Multi-Trip policies
For an Annual Multi-Trip policy, cover is provided for the 12-month period shown on your policy schedule.
Each individual trip must not exceed the maximum trip duration for your chosen level of cover:
Silver: 32 consecutive days.
Gold: 45 consecutive days.
Platinum: 62 consecutive days.
Cancellation cover for an individual trip starts from the date shown on your policy schedule or the date you book the trip, whichever is later.
Single Trip policies
For a Single Trip policy, cover applies for the period of the trip shown on your policy schedule, provided the trip does not exceed that period.
Cancellation cover starts from the time you pay the premium.
Cover under the other sections of the policy applies for the duration of your trip.
What if my return home is unavoidably delayed?
Your insurance period is automatically extended if your return to your home area is unavoidably delayed because of an event covered by the policy, provided you:
Accept the alternatives offered to you; and
Do not intentionally delay your return.
For a Single Trip policy, the policy will end if we have paid for you to cut short your trip.
Important: All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, cover limits and any applicable excess.
